X-TEAM D2D - eXTEnded AtM for Door2Door travel

Obiettivo

The X-TEAM D2D project, whose research consortium is led by CIRA, aims to define, develop and validate a Concept of Operations (ConOps) for the integration of ATM and air transport into an overall intermodal network, including other available transport means (surface, water), to enable door-to-door connectivity, up to 4 hours, between any location in Europe, in compliance with the ACARE SRIA FlightPath 2050 objectives.

The project is focused on the definition of the ConOps for ATM and UTM integration in the intermodal transport network serving urban and extended mobility (up to the regional level), taking into account the transport and passenger service scenarios expected for the next decades. X-TEAM D2D also specifically addresses vertical transport integration aspects, i.e. Urban Air Mobility (UAM), and considers defining an evolutionary ConOps, through three-time horizons: baseline (2025), intermediate(2035) and final (2050).

The developed ConOps is preliminarily evaluated with respect to the applicable KPAs (Key Performance Areas) and KPIs (Key Performance Indicators), implementing a qualitative and quantitative performances' evaluation approach.

For the quantitative evaluation, the X-TEAM D2D project aims to develop a specific simulation platform, capable of modeling the most relevant elements of the future multimodal integrated transport system, such as the interfaces between the different transport modes, the integrated multimodal network, the passenger-centric door-to-door transport paradigm.

At the end of the validation of the proposed ConOps, the project includes elaboration of the related conclusions and stakeholders' recommendations.

Attività nel progetto CIRA

The X-TEAM D2D project is led by CIRA. The project activities are managed by the Air Traffic Efficiency department and consist of:

  • Consortium coordination and project management;

  • Technologies analysis for urban and suburban mobility, identifying the barriers to the implementation of the D2D (door-to-door) paradigm;

  • Identification of enabling technologies for the integration of ATM and conventional aviation, as well as U-Space and Urban Air Mobility, in an intermodal transport system;

  • Design of a Concept of Operations (ConOps) for an integrated multimodal transport system, at infrastructure level, transport means and passenger services, through the three identified time horizons, i.e. baseline (2025), intermediate (2035) and final (2050);

  • Criteria and procedures definition for managing the evolutionary process, towards the paradigm shift from the current ATM and air transport management to the X-TEAM D2D proposed ConOps;

  • Metrics definition to be used in simulation validation of the ConOps, in terms of KPAs (Key Performance Areas) and KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) of interest;

  • Simulation validation through stakeholders consultations of the proposed ConOps and definition of the conclusions and indications.
