Development of Hollow Cathodes for Space Propulsion<img alt="" src="https://www.cira.it/PublishingImages/catodi%20cavi%20propulsione%20elettrica.jpg" style="BORDER:0px solid;" />https://webauthoring.cira.it/en/competences/Pages/Sviluppo-di-catodi-cavi-per-la-propulsione-elettrica-spaziale.aspxDevelopment of Hollow Cathodes for Space Propulsion<p></p><p style="text-align:justify;">The development of a hollow cathode for low-power space electric propulsion applications has recently been completed.</p><p style="text-align:justify;">The hollow cathode, named CRCAT (CIRA-CATHODE), was designed by CIRA in the framework of the IMP-EP (Electric Propulsion Systems) project as electronic source for the 250W Hall effect Thruster (CR-HET250), developed by CIRA in the same project.</p><p style="text-align:justify;">The cathode, by using a lanthanum hexaboride insert (LaB6), is able to supply the discharge current required by all the operative point of CR-HET250 thruster.<br></p><p style="text-align:justify;">​For the finalization of the project CIRA took advantage of the collaboration and know-how of Thermal Spray Service (TSS) based in Cassino, that developed the needed technology for the finalization of this critical component according to CIRA specifications.<br></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><br></p><p><br></p>2022-01-13T23:00:00Z
