The T-WING consortium is awarded the Leonardo Helicopters new Tiltrotor wing development project

The T-WING consortium, coordinated by CIRA and consisting of important representatives of the Italian aeronautical sector, was the winner of the competition for the development and realisation of the wing of the new Tiltrotor aircraft being developed by Leonardo Helicopters within the scope of the Clean Sky 2 Fast Rotorcraft.


Completed at CIRA the testing of the black box of the future space launchers

In our Space Qualification Laboratory has just been completed the Demise Observation Capsule testing campaign. It is a "black box" that will be installed on board of the future European Launchers, to acquire images and data useful for studying the trajectories of the various components during their return to the earth.


Second test campaign successfully performed for AFRL

A test campaign was successfully performed in the hypersonic facility Ghibli in the framework of the collaboration between CIRA and the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL), devoted to research and development of UHTC (Ultra-high-temperature ceramics) coatings on ceramic matrix composite materials (CMC).


Successful tests for DLR in the hypersonic facility GHIBLI

A test campaign was successfully performed in the hypersonic facility GHIBLI for the German Aerospace Center DLR in the framework of the European funded LIGHT-TPS project. The tests concerned Ultra-High Temperature Ceramics coatings for super light-weight Thermal Protection Systems of space re-entry vehicles.


Crash test for safer aircraft at CIRA

CIRA carried out a drop test at its LISA (Aerospace Structures Impact Laboratory) facility. The test involved a section of fuselage from a regional transport aircraft, made from a composite material produced by the Leonardo Company. This test forms part of the DAC-CERVIA project.


HYPROB-NEW, completion of first major test campaign

A series of hot-fire tests for the Thrust Chamber Assembly FSBB has been completed at the Avio Fast2 plant in Colleferro. It involved an injector plate with 18 injectors, designed and manufactured by CIRA using innovative vacuum brazing techniques, and a dummy Avio combustion chamber with the internal design of the Hyprob Demo chamber.



Completed the micro-climate station prototype that will send data from Antarctica

Integration and testing completion of the micro-climate station prototype that will be installed in Antarctica next winter.
